Situated in the centre of the La Marina Baixa region is the famous Spanish resort of Benidorm. It used to be a small and quiet fishing village until the 1960s when it became one of the most renowned tourist destinations along the Costa Blanca. It is considered as one of the world’s biggest and lively resorts. There are around 4 miles of sandy beaches and crystal clear waters in the area.
Its breath taking beaches, accommodation, restaurants and variety of recreational activities make it a hit with holidaymakers from all over Spain and other parts of Europe.
Consisting of over three hundred skyscrapers, it is often referred to as the Dubai of the Mediterranean and has also been compared to Miami in Florida.
For those who fancy an intense nightlife, Benidorm is the ideal place to be as there are numerous bars and entertainment activities here. You can also find hundreds of night clubs and of course karaoke as always.
Benidorm is a place with something for everyone from vibrant night life, a walk in the promenade, swimming at its spectacular beaches and peace and serenity from its charming gardens and secluded coves. There are also native cultural festivals, excellent cuisine and great shopping. The possibilities are endless!
Plus, it also enjoys over 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. So, what more can you ask for?
To the north of the harbour and known as the sunrise beach, Levante beach is one of the most stunning in the city. It is also the most popular with more than 5000 sunbeds for rent. It has many hotels and a promenade with bars, cafes and restaurants. It has easy access to many services such as sports facilities for water skiing, jet skiing, paragliding and scuba diving, diving boards and more, not to mention the two kilometres of golden fine sands. The beach also provides ramps and facilities for disabled people.
Families are notably well catered for. The children enjoy all day long entertainment which can only be great news for parents.
Surrounded by a busy promenade, filled with terraces and restaurants, Levante beach is exceptionally vibrant at night.
Situated to the west of Levante is the Poniente beach with its golden curl of fine sand. It is the longest beach in the resort 3km long stretching from Dove Park down to La Calla making it a perfect place to stroll along the shore.
This beach is more popular with local residents and Spanish families rather than tourists. Compared to Levante, Benidorm’s most famous beach, Poniente is not a place to see and be seen but a place to have fun and relax with your family.
The water is perfect for swimming as the sea is crystal clear and rock-free. It also has a full range of services including an army of sand beds. Leisure facilities are close at hand including floating platforms, playground, shaded areas for reading, beach library, sports and an accessible beach service for the disabled.
Along the stretch of golden sand, is a new modern promenade designed by the architect Carlos Ferrater where you will find a large number of restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs for visitors to enjoy.
If you do not fancy a hectic time enjoying the sun then this will be a better alternative as Poniente is characteristically quieter and less crowded.
Once you’ve had your fill of partying, it may well be the right time for a bit of Spanish culture. Take a step back in time and only a short walk away is the charming Old Town of Benidorm. It is an evocative warren of cobbled streets and inviting tapas bars, cafes, restaurants and lovely shops.
One of the favourite places to sample authentic Spanish tapas is in the Plaza de la Constitutio and along Santo Domingo (or Tapas Alley as it is fondly known) where small plates of seafood, meat and vegetables can be enjoyed at very reasonable prices.
With its blue-domed church of San Jaime and white houses, it has also managed to retain its character giving it an Authentic Spanish feel.
At the foot of the town is a small beach plus a marina and a nice park. The nightlife is also exceptional so it is definitely a must see!
Located towards the west side of Poniente is La Cala. Away from the hustle and bustle of Levante, it also offers stunning beaches and safe bathing. If you are searching for a relaxed beach holiday where everything you need is within reach from your hotel or apartments then this lovely resort is the right one for you.
El Rincon de Loix
Rincoln de Loix is located to the east side of Levante. It is the newer part of Benidorm and also home to the unique cable water ski as well as scuba diving.
The golden beach is surrounded by cafes where you can spend your day people watching. There is an abundance of sun loungers and beach activities. Away from the shore, El Rincon also boasts many souvenir shops, a lively indoor market and small boutiques.
