The 32nd weekly session on April 5th of the Gran Alacant Oldies Walking Football saw an attendance of 16 players, equalling our best yet.

One of the players who had been with us for the last 2 months, Jason Connell, was playing for his last time before returning to the UK. He very generously donated a brand new football to us, which was very much appreciated. In the picture attached, he is in the front with the yellow ball.

Our age limits range from players in their mid fifties to a few in their seventies, one in fact is 76. We do try to attract 60s and over.

A French player came for the first time, to join our Spanish and UK contingent.

We are arranging our first game against another team outside of Gran Alacant. It may be against a team from Algorfa. They have a lovely astro turf pitch, which they play on, so we will be playing the game there. The original date for this game was to be on May 1st, but this has been found to be unrealistic, partly due to it being a holiday, so a new date is being arranged. It is a shame that our urbanisation can only offer them a concrete pitch to come and play on here against us. We have had teams from the UK and Holland, offering to play us, but we cannot provide a pitch good enough to play on. What a shame. The concrete is uncompromising if you fall. Would think that an astro turf area would soon pay for itself, with organisations queuing up to rent it each week. Not just us but many opportunities for the school children. Would be nice to find sponsors so we could claw back the money through renting out the pitch. Out here sports are played all year round, so the rental income is much more viable. Our games are all year, not just restricted to normal football dates.

Any creaking oldies out there like me, who would like to move about a bit more. How about getting together for VERY SLOWLY walking football No walking sticks allowed. Every Thursday.
