FRIDAY NIGHT SUMMER FISH AND CHIP COMPETITION
The competition started on Friday 11th July and ran for seven weeks finishing on Friday 22nd August. It started at 1800 hours and consisted of twelve ends, after which everyone had a well earned drink then over to the square for fish and chips or their preferred meal.
The overall winner was the player with the most accumulated shots from their best five games. The result and prizes were given after the last game by the organisers to the winner and runner up.
Runner up: Lynne Armitage with a score of seventy six shots.
Winner: Neil Crawford with a very impressive score of ninety six shots.
Thank you to Diane and John for organising another successful and enjoyable competition.
CHICKEN RUN
The chicken run was well supported with a lot a new members taking part. As once again it was a very hot morning we only played fourteen ends with a drinks break after seven ends. The chickens were won by Diane Horsington with twenty five shots and David Eades with twenty three shots. The eggs were won by Sheila Roberts and Neil Helps.
Thank you Des and John Freeman for sponsoring the chickens, as Julia and Ian’s hens are not laying the club provided the eggs. The football card was won by Ian Crawford with West ham. Thanks to Howie, Joan and Sue for organising a successful chicken run.
IBERIAN OPEN MIXED PAIRS COMPETITION
An early start on Friday 5th September saw six members of Monte Mar Bowls Club travelling up the AP7 to Bonalba Bowls Club to take part in the Iberian Open Mixed Pairs Competition. The competition consisted of each pair playing four games of fifty minutes with two points for a win and one point for each end won. After a challenging and hot day of bowls, which was both enjoyable and rewarding our three pairs came in, first place Neil Crawford and Lynne Armitage 30 points, seventh place John Hunt and Diane Horsington 25 points, tenth place Colin and Cindy Bedford 23 points. Well done to all especially the winners.
FRIENDSHIP CUP
Monday 10th September
We enjoyed hosting the second leg of the friendship Cup with La Marina. On the day Monte Mar were the winners by twelve points, however over the two legs La Marina were the victors by thirty one shots. After the competition we had a very enjoyable meal at The Chill Out Grill in Masa Square.
GRAN ALACANT PROPERTIES TOURNAMENT
Twenty four members took part in the two day trips competition. Each team played three games of seven ends each day. We had a break after seven ends for drinks; we also enjoyed savouries supplied by members of the club. The winning team was Sheila Roberts, Ian Crawford skip David Eades, Chris from Gran Alacant Properties presented the winners with a trophy. Runners up were Paul Dodd, Maz skip Keith Young, well done everyone. Cindy thanked Jan, Heidi, Viv and Debbie for their help selling the savouries and raffle tickets. After the raffle draw Cindy also thanked Chris from Gran Alacant Properties for his sponsorship and presenting and suppling the trophy, also Sue and Les who manned the control desk.
After the presentations we enjoyed a buffet and drinks at Skippers. It was a very enjoyable and successful competition a big thank you to Cindy for organising the competition and all who took part.
