GRAN ALACANT GOLF SOCIETY
During the last week in October we undertook our much anticipated visit to Alicante Golf (AG) and we were not disappointed. Firstly, it was great to see some familiar faces amongst the course personnel who had transferred from El Plantio (EP) and who made us feel very welcome. Secondly, despite the apparent financial constraints over the last couple of years the course was in excellent condition.
For those who do not know, AG is situated not far from the city centre on the way to San Juan urbanisations. It is different to EP’s open parkland setting in that the fairways are edged by villas and apartments. In addition the layout unusually comprises 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 5’s. Designed by Seve Ballasteros, there is water on 12 holes including his signature “S” shaped lake which envelopes the 9th green.
Off the yellow tee boxes the length is 6057 metres (EP 5977) although it seems longer as there are very long walks from greens to next tees.
We are now back at EP with the news that during December and January the green fee for Society guests has been reduced to 38.50 euros to include a buggy and insurance.
