El Clot de Galvany (Nature Reserve)

The Clot Nature Reserve is located at the bottom of the hill on the left hand side just before the junction with the coast road to Santa Pola. It is home to numerous birds and wildlife, including white-headed ducks, amphibians, reptiles and rabbits.

There is a lovely spacious area for picnics where you can enjoy catching up with friends whilst the kids enjoy playing in the trees and sand dunes. Some of the tables are in shaded areas so you can escape the sun for a while.

On Sundays and public holidays at 4pm in the Nature classroom, which is located near the entrance, you can watch a 30 minute audio visual show highlighting some of the wildlife who live in the clot. You can also take a free guided tour of the clot on Sundays and public holidays. The tour starts at 10am and covers 2km in approximately 2 hours.

Also starting at the Nature Classroom are two different routes for you to follow to enjoy all of the natural beauty of this area. Both routes are clearly marked.

  • The first route takes you to the natural and artificial ponds and using their wildlife observatories you can admire the beauty of some of the many aquatic birds.
  • The second route takes you towards the hills of Cabeco-Carabassi which surround the nature reserve and its hillsides offer amazing views of these wetlands and the distant mountains. Along this route you can admire the many different types of natural flora and fauna, including rosemary, sea lavender and thyme bushes and numerous pine and palm trees. If history is your thing then also along this route you will find military trenches and bunkers dating back to the Civil War.
