Hi,
my name is Star and I have been lucky enough to call Gran Alacant my home for over 8 years now. My 6 year old daughter Ashlee and I are often “Out & About” enjoying the local attractions and culture in this part of Spain. Over the next few months I will be sharing some of our experiences with you to encourage you to go “Out & About” yourselves and maybe learn a little bit about this beautiful place we call home.
This month I wanted to share our love for a place called Reina Sofia Park which is in Guardamar, just a short 25 minute drive away, heading South along the N332.
We have visited this amazing park many times over the years and have always had lots of fun. Nestling under the large canopy of trees, which keeps you cool even on the hottest days, we enjoy walking around the park, feeding the various ducks, swans, geese, peacocks/peahens and sometimes even get up close and personal with the red squirrels. We also enjoy watching the Koi, goldfish and terrapins swimming around in the ponds.
As well as enjoying the wildlife, there is also a very large play area which has playhouses, a zip-line, climbing frames and the usual slides and swings. Ashlee and her friends always have a great time playing here and burning up some of their seemingly endless amounts of energy!!!!
Some days we have taken a picnic with us to enjoy whilst sitting at one of the picnic areas in the park and on other days we have walked a little way to the beach where there are some lovely restaurants serving a more traditional Spanish “Menu del Dia”.
Located opposite this park is another park called Parque Alfonso XIII. Ashlee really enjoyed riding along on her scooter through the trees and we followed the path until we ended up at the beach. There are lots of different routes you can take and as it is fairly level it makes for a lovely stroll or scoot or bike ride.
