14 players + a referee turned up for the session on January 10th of the Gran Alacant Oldies Walking Football.
It is so gratifying to see the numbers we are achieving during this winter. On this date last year we were having attendances of around 8 players.
Sitting in the elevated stand area at the Gran Alacant Sports Centre, it was very noticeable the improved standard of the players over recent sessions. Yet another newbee attended this week, and yet again, the comments were, “I did not expect it to be like this” saying how quick our players are at these weekly sessions.
The expansion of our club, continued the next day, with an away fixture at Rojales playing against a team from Quesada. This was our fourth away game at an opponents ground. The picture attached shows our players at the Quesada fixture, which was a bit of a mis match. Some of our players were very much older than the opposition and we had no substitutes, whereas the home side could bring on substitutes as needed with fresher legs during the game. We will learn from this.
On the 21stof January another big step forward for the club was to be taken, when they played their first home competitive fixture against Hondon at their new home venue in Santa Pola. This venue will only be used for our home competitive fixtures. All Thursday sessions will remain at the Gran Alacant Sports Centre.

Del Club de Fútbol “Gran Alacant Walking Football”, 14 Jugardores y un árbitro se unieron para la sesión del 10 de Enero. Es muy gratificante ver que cada vez hay más participantes. En estas fechas del año pasado, éramos unos 8 jugadores. Sentado viendo los partidos en el Polideportivo de Gran Alacant, ya se pueden ver mejoras en el nivel de los jugadores a lo largo de las últimas sesiones. Esta semana se incorporó un nuevo miembro, y otra vez, el comentario fue “no me esperaba esto” sobre la rapidez de algunos jugadores. La expansión de nuestro club, continuó al día siguiente, con un partido en Rojales contra un equipo de Quesada. Este fue nuestro 4º partido fuera de casa. Entre las primeras páginas pueden ver fotos del partido. Algunos de nuestros jugadores eran mayores que los jugadores de Quesada, y no teníamos sustitutos, mientras que el otro equipo pudo hacer reposiciones y contar con piernas frescas a lo largo del partido. Aprenderemos de esto. El 21 de Enero, jugamos el primer partido en casa, contra un equipo de Hondon en nuestro nueva pista en Santa Pola. Este campo sólo lo usaremos para los partidos. Todas las sesiones de entrenamiento seguirán los jueves en el Polideportivo de Gran Alacant.
