Bici Gran Alacant is a group for all road-bike cyclists in and around Gran Alacant.
My name is Olli-Pekka and I joined the group 2,5 years ago when I moved to Gran Alacant from Helsinki, Finland. Cycling has always been my passion and being new to this area I didn’t really know too many cycling routes, so after a little internet research I was only too happy to discover other cycling enthusiasts and group Bici Gran Alacant.

It was great to meet people with the same interest and join more experienced cyclists who know the roads around here. Many of the roads have dead ends or lead somewhere totally unexpected. In the group you will discover good rides and also visit fabulous places you may not have the courage to go to by yourself. However, the group is very democratic and anybody can suggest a new ride!

Conditions in Costa Blanca and the area surrounding Gran Alacant are very good for cycling with only 34 rainy days per year on average. Roads are fairly quiet so you don’t have to worry about the traffic too much. Drivers are polite and give plenty of room. Most of the roads are in very good condition. Weather is dry so you don’t have to worry about getting wet or the roads being slippery. All you have to do is to get on your bike, enjoy the sunshine and wind in your face.

If you have a bike or you decide to rent a bike in Gran Alacant, the beach road between Santa Pola and Gran Alacant will become very familiar. It’s the first cycling route most cyclists take. But there are also plenty of other really nice sights to see if you dare to go over the N-322 and venture into the wild. The routes or places I write about can be reached with road-bikes.

I would like to thank Mr Dave Brown, a long-standing member of the group, for introducing these routes to me.

This month I would like to tell you about a route to San Felipe Neri.

Elche is the palm-capital of Europe and that can be seen when going for a nice cup of coffee in a small village of San Felipe de Neri. Small road through palmeras and Parcque Natural El Fondo on the side of the road. Small village is easy to navigate. Go over the N-332 by the CG. Take the lane towards Cartagena. Once you arrive to N-332 take the first junction to the right in 50m. Just ride end of the road and turn left to the CV-851. Carry on the CV-851 or as some like to call it : “infinity road”. Continue straight over the first roundabout towards Dolores. After ~7km there is a next roundabout where again we carry on towards Dolores. 2km’s more and there is yet again another roundabout. Take the second exit (continue straight). After maybe 1km turn left to small road with sign “Parque Natural el Hondo”. Kind of fake junction will appear, but just keep going to the left. Keep on this road through palm-farms about 10km and you are in San Felipe Neri. There is a nice café next to the church for tostada and coffee. To and back to San Felipe Neri the route is more or less 60km

You can find information about several weekly rides on our Facebook page Gran Alacant Road Cyclist “Bici Gran Alacant”.
